Once you have chosen what kind of saltwater fishing rod and reel you will be using, the next step will be to choose what kind of saltwater fishing line you will be using. There are many different characteristics that will come into play when you are choosing a saltwater fishing line to put on your reel, below are some of these characteristics.
Pound Test – This determines the breaking strength of the saltwater fishing line, this is the amount of pressure that can be put on the line before it breaks. For instance a saltwater fishing line that is rated 10 pound test would not be as strong as a fishing line that is rated 20 pound test. You will have to determine this by what kind of fishing reel that you are using, they all have a minimum and maximum pound test that the fishing reel can handle.
Visibility – This can be very crucial as it will depend on what kind of water you are fishing in. Most monofilament lines are clear, making it difficult for the fish to see.
